Netflix Korea on Wednesday released a set of stills for the upcoming series “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area,” which is set to begin airing on June 24.

The series is a Korean adaptation of the hit Spanish TV series “Money Heist” (2017-21), also available on Netflix. The group of thieves in red jumpsuits and masks has become a signature image of the series. For the Korean adaptation, the masks take the form of hahoetal, Korean traditional masks from Hahoe Folk Village in North Gyeongsang. The thieves plan to pull off the biggest heist in history on the Korean Peninsula as South Korea and North Korea are on the verge of unification.

Among the various traditional masks in Korea, hahoe masks are considered the most beautiful and well-known images representing Korean culture. Such masks were traditionally worn in Korea during various rituals from the 12th century.

The first season of “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area” consists of six episodes. It stars Yoo Ji-tae, Park Hae-soo, Jeon Jong-seo, and Lee Won-jong. It follows a hostage situation in Korea centering on a criminal mastermind called The Professor, played by Yoo.
