Barcelona legend Dani Alves has warned clubs not to break the bank by signing Erling Haaland and believes he would be better spent on Kylian Mbappe.

Haaland and Mbappe are two of the most in-demand players in European football and the pair could be on the move this summer.

Mbappe, 23, is out of contract at Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season and has been heavily linked with Real Madrid, who had a €200m (£171.7m) offer for him. the France international dismissed last summer.

Madrid are also interested in Haaland, who has a £63m release clause in his current contract with Borussia Dortmund, while Manchester City have also been linked with the striker.

When asked to name his favorite signing of the pair, Alves had no doubts which player he would choose.

“I wouldn’t throw everything at Haaland,” Alves told Spanish outlet Sport.

“Honestly, I wouldn’t spend a lot of money on him. On Mbappe, yes, but not on Haaland.

“I play as a sporting director here, but I would bet on Mbappe first. He looks more complete in every aspect.

“If you’re going to make a huge investment, you have to do it on the best. If it were up to me, I’d bet on Mbappe.”

Mbappe has scored 160 goals in 209 games for PSG since arriving from Monaco in 2017.

Haaland, meanwhile, has already managed 80 goals in just 84 games since signing for Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in 2020.

Both forwards have also been linked with a move to Barcelona this summer.

However, club president Joan Laporta recently admitted that the Catalan club are unlikely to be able to afford either player.

“The economic terms that I was told these two deals would cost…we would never agree to spend those numbers. No way,” he said.

“I see them both very far from Barcelona.”
