All cyclists are encouraged to get a new PRONTO card or download the PRONTO app to ride for free throughout September. Free rides with PRONTO will be available on the MTS Trolley and NCTD’s buses and Breeze and Sprinter – but no free rides on the Coaster.
Passengers will not need to pay but will have to type a PRONTO card or scan the QR code on the app on PRONTO validators located in stations and on buses.
The entire PRONTO system will start charging tariffs on October 1. Coaster passengers wishing to purchase fares for September should use the PRONTO mobile app.
“PRONTO is a prime example of how MTS is committed to investing in convenience, accessibility and value for our passengers,” said Nathan Fletcher, Chairman of the Board of Directors of MTS and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of San Diego County. “The new PRONTO system represents a huge step forward in terms of ease of use, and one month of free transport is a great incentive to download the PRONTO app or card in hand. “
MTS hosted community outreach events to educate passengers about the new system and distribute free PRONTO cards ahead of launch. Free cards will also be available at participating Vons and Albertsons stores and over 50 other outlets. Some outlets may require a minimum charge of $ 5 on the card which can be used for fares in October.
From October, points of sale will also load PRONTO cards with value. The Ride PRONTO website will allow users to register cards and purchase fares, view order history, add payment methods, set up a personalized dashboard, and more.
The new program includes a “best fare” system to automatically calculate the best possible fare for passengers, potentially saving them money over the course of a day or month. PRONTO accounts also offer free transfers within two hours for a single fee.
The app will also allow passengers to instantly add value to their accounts and track all of their journeys and progress toward obtaining a day and monthly pass.
From October, PRONTO cards can also be topped up at ATMs, the transit store and more than a hundred points of sale.
With PRONTO, rates are capped at $ 6 per day or $ 72 per month for adult passes – $ 3 / day and $ 23 / month for seniors, people with disabilities, and youth. appropriate tariff.
