Bubba’s Closet collects winter coats for students
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – For over 20 years, Bubba’s Closet has provided thousands of coats to students at Lincoln Public Schools, and this year they are once again asking the community for help to keep every child warm this winter.
The Lincoln Public Schools Elementary Principals Network is organizing the coat drive, asking members of the Lincoln community to donate winter coats for preschool and elementary school children.
“We have received tremendous support not only from the school community, but from across the city of Lincoln,” said Jeff Vercellino, Principal of Cavett Elementary School. “Last year we requested over a thousand coats and I think we were able to fill the thousand coats for the students. “
The event will be a little different from past years due to the pandemic. Coats can be donated either by donating to the Lincoln Public Schools Foundation or by donating a new coat to any LPS elementary school. They will then be distributed to students in late October or early November.
“We just know that there is a high percentage of students arriving at school, perhaps not with the proper diapers or clothing necessary to be comfortable outside in our elements during the winter,” Vercellino said. “Whether it’s here on the school grounds or outside playing on the playground, we just want to make sure all of our students are safe and taken care of. “
If you are a family that needs a coat this winter, today October 1st is the last day to request a winter coat.
